Hunter Recruitment: Getting at the Meat of the Issue

Steven Rinella, host of MeatEater, speaks during dinner at the North American Deer Summit.

If I took nothing else away from last week’s North American Deer Summit, I at least came home with a big appetite. Venison steak, roasts or burger – it all sounded good. ....

Interestingly, the two main keynote speakers at the Summit, Steven Rinella and Shane Mahoney, both seemed to have a similar solution in mind. Focus on the meat.

His point, as I understood it, was that non-hunters can connect with hunting most tangibly by virtue of food. It’s something we have in common. It’s something we’re all interested in. It’s something that’s a part of all of our lives. And there’s an opportunity there for us to engage with them on this.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

SpecialT, don't worry. Based on that kid's form, I would say that he is hooked for life.

He took to instruction like a duck to water! I think the second way to get people into hunting is take them out to shoot a 22lr. I bought some 22 steel animal targets that go flying when hit. I think its the next best investment beside the auto loader for the 10-22 mags!

Take a kid shooting!
